What Happened to Monte Morris?

Post#1 » by Liam_Gallagher » Tue May 21, 2024 6:16 pm

For years this kid was a promising guard for Denver. He's only 28 but now he's warming the bench for teams like Detroit and Minnesota.

What happened to him?

Just because you’re a good player on a good team doesn’t mean you’re gonna be better or even as good on a bad team.

That's called the "Jokic effect".

He got injured then the Pistons stole his basketball powers much like they did with Blake Griffin.
Aaron Gordon, Devin Booker, Tyrese Halliburton, Trae Young, Anthony Edwards and Luka Doncic all made the Conference Finals.

Where’s Joel Embiid?

Good backuo PG who doesn't turn the ball over. I wish he was a more willing 3p shooter.

He's literally what he was always destined to be?

I thought he should have gotten Kyle Anderson's minutes in the Denver series, but my understanding is that he is playing through a sprained right index finger.

Really solid player, probably would get a few more minutes for Minnesota if fully healthy, but ultimately, Minnesota is a a deep team and some good players just don't end up getting minutes because of it.

As a note, he was injured in Detroit.

Monte got pushed out of the rotation when Ant started playmaking more the last 30-40 games of the season. Before that the Wolves were using Jordan McLaughlin to back up Conley and honestly using SloMo to run the second unit. They got Monte cause they thought they needed a second backcourt primary ball handler but he came over and Ant took over that work. Not Monte's fault. Whenever he's been called upon he's played good on both ends and he provides some depth if, god forbid, Mike Conley ever got hurt.

Not all guys who show promise early in their careers get better as they age. Some plateau relatively quickly and decline. Think Michael Carter-Williams, OJ Mayo or Tyreke Evans.

He does have one of the best nicknames in the NBA though (Count of Monte Assist/TO).

He was injured for like 70% of the season then landed on a team with a pretty established rotation. The little he did play in minny he did decent.

He's still on an NBA roster on a deep team (TWolves). He still gets playing time every so often.

What more do you want? A starter spot? On this team with lots of depth already ?
Also, wouldn't you rather have Conley out there running the floor majority of the time? Me, personally? I would. If I was Minnesota.
