1 - Philadelphia: Pascal Siakim
2 - L.A. Lakers: Brandon Ingram
3 - Boston: Jaylen Brown
4 - Phoenix: Domanstas Sabonis
5 - Minnesota: DeJounte Murray - what a pairing for KAT (imagine the defense if the lineup was Murray/Ant/KAT/Gobert)
6 - New Orleans: Jamal Murray
7 - Denver: Fred Van Vleet
8 - Phoenix (via Sacramento): Buddy Hield
9 - Toronto: Jacob Poeltl
10 - Milwaukee: Ivaca Zubac
11 - Oklahoma City (via Orlando): Alex Caruso
12 - Atlanta: Malcolm Brogdan
13 - Sacramento (via Phoenix): Malik Beasley
14 - Chicago: Caris LeVert
15 - Denver: Taurean Prince
16 - Boston: Dorian Finney-Smith
17 - Memphis: Gary Payton II
18 - Detroit: Derick Jones Jr.
19 - Denver: Ben Simmons (would be much higher if not for the injuries)
20 - Brooklyn: Georges Niang
Pheonix likely becomes way better building with Sabonis, Hield and Booker (what a wing combo) but may never reach the same status they did with the Paul, Booker, Ayton run

It happens, I mean we had very promising draftees busted hard in the league - A.Morrisson, T. Robinson, etc. Drafting always involve some luck. However, there was a serious incompetency here.
First, Dragan Bender.
Anyone who followed European basketball knew he's not a pro-league material. He was phenomenal in youth basketball categories (possibly as a result of early growth spurt) and entered to the radar of NBA scouts, but flopped hard when he went to higher age categories. Just like tens of other prospect. It is very similar to 5-star high school recruits who are projected as top NBA picks in future mock drafts failing to keep their status over time, and eventually drafted late, or even went undrafted. I remember laughing when I read him as high-potential and top-5 pick in mock drafts by so called "experts". Where were you in the last two years? It was almost absurd as selecting Skal Labissere in top-5. Yet they watched him in better competition (NCAA) and he went from once being 1st pick candidate to all the back to 28th pick. Unlike Skal, I can assure you no one really watched Bender during that time, yet read others opinions and 5 minute highlight videos to evaluate him. Otherwise, it is impossible to call him high potential pick, seeing how much he failed at the pro level. If a player looks disappointing at Israeli league, you can always be sure he will be disappointing in NBA very next year (Yet these experts let a player who dominated one of the best pro-leagues of the world at the same age with Benders fall out of lottery...)
And Marquese Chriss.
When a team trade up in draft for a specific player, you can expect they've really studied their lesson. Chriss busted as well, but it happens a lot. On the other hand, how can you throw Bogdan Bogdanovic who proved himself as a one of the best players in Euroleague as well as Serbian NT as some now 30 years old failed euro-stash project. At that point, it was evident that 24 years old BB alone almost as valuable as 8th pick.

You named several allstar and All-nba players, it's far from a bad draft. There's no superstar but many drafts don't have a superstar. How many drafts produced 5 all-nba players (plus Dejounte and Jamal)?
And? This makes it good?
There are 30 teams and roughly 8 rotation players per team, that's 240 of rotation players, there are also roughly 15 drafts contributing these players with the peak of the bell curve around 6-10 years old drafts, an 8 years old draft should be contributing 20 rotation players at least, so in terms of depth this is a bad draft, 2016 should be one of the prime contributers to depth, it isn't, there are 15 active players from it.
WRT to your qualifications, top talents the best 3 players are Brown, Siakam and Sabonis, 0 1st team all NBA, barely any 2nd team all NBA, no 1st options on goods here, no 2nd options on good teams except Murray, who plays with top 15 all time player and great starting 5, 3rd options on good teams and very few of them, so in terms of top talent, it's not good either.

what are you guys talking about? 5 all-nba, 6 allstars and Jamal Murray. If the 2024 draft turns out like this, it's a homerun.

I think the top 5 is pretty close and any of these guys could leapfrog each other depending on what team they end up on. I feel Siakam ended up being the most complete player and the guy with the most universal value. I didn't even have him on my big board when this draft happened.

Many forget that this draft had the Egyptian Michael Jordan who had a 5 year NBA career waiving towels and chucking threes. He got some pretty good run.

2016 would be a great outcome for the 2024 draft. Especially since the hits will likely be scattered through the draft.
I would take Brown first in a redraft.
How do you account for KJ at 7

Some of you should go to bbref and sort some drafts by win shares. You'll be surprised how fast the talent level drops off most years. Even in so called great drafts. 2016 was solid. Just lacks a true headliner.

This thread reminds me of another name I haven't heard in ages: Kris Dunn. There was tons and tons of predraft hype on him, causing him to soar up mock draft boards. I remember one analyst calling him "Rajon Rondo with a jump shot."

If you were drafting a "Robin" this was the perfect draft. There's not a single standout star from this draft, just a lot of no.2s and 3s. I'm happy with what the Nuggets ended up with.

The Raptors having the 1st, 7th and 9th best players in this draft on the same team in 22-23, and still losing in the play-in is some kinda rough. But damn, what a homerun of a draft for Masai this year. He also turned Bargnani into Poeltl, which was parlayed into Kawhi.

KJ was drafted by Cleveland, played for the Cavs a bunch of games, and wasn't traded to the Suns until midway through the season. I don't think he should count as a Suns draftee.
