Reminder next years pick is lottery protected. Fall out of the lottery next season and our pick goes to Spurs. No one can argue both “win now” AND draft a better prospect next year, because if you “win now” there won’t be a pick next year.

I say grab the best available wing in this draft.

This is also probably true for several players that we might draft at 6. Some of this is that I fully expect us to add more veterans to this team and look to try to push for the playoffs

Holland might be our best perimeter defender year 1, especially if Cody Martin can't stay healthy again.

I mean, you could say the same about Leaky black last year, don't mean it will get him rotation as a rookie.

Let's be real, if Holland is in our rotation next year, it's probably because our season is lost and we are tanking again.

I think comparing a guy that went undrafted to a guy that was once considered the #1 pick is probably not the best comparison to make. Talent wise they are nowhere close. Cason Wallace, Lively went 10th and 12th as freshman and are playing meaningful mins in the playoffs and weren't viewed as win now pieces at all.

Holland put up 20 ppg in the gleague, so it is not like he is a bottom of the barrel scorer. Especially when you consider he is one of the youngest players in the draft.

I completely get some of the skepticism around him, but some folks are acting like he is Sekou Doumbouya

Two bad shots over the course of a season and James Plowright is losing his mind.

Holland also flashed a decent bit of playmaking in the Gleague as well. If he is there and we pass I think it would be pretty foolish.

not about skepticism... i'm completely fine with taking holland. but dude won't play next year ahead of vets, if we are trying to win, regardless of his defense. he's raw and needs time.

#6 to Utah for their 10/29/32 is tempting if there is someone at #6 they covet

draft is already bad, no sense trading down just to pick up a couple of guys who very likely will never play

i don't think we need more fringe young guys to add to the roster. we need to ditch the mitch plan of filling half the roster with 20-year old projects. unless, we clear out dead weight and churn thru the youngsters we have, flipping them for future picks or vets, or just cut them.

Holland is a favorite of the non-mainstream draft coverage, the draft junkies with 10k followers seem to have him as a top 5 lock whereas mainstream draft coverage has him closer to 10 often. Take that for what you will, he is odd because heading into the year NBA teams did not expect him to showcase much in terms of being a primary offensive guy. However, that was exactly what he did averaging 20 ppg in ignite but it was with a low efficiency.

Positives
Really young, still 18 on draft night
Great size on the wing 6-8 in shoes with 6-11 wingspan- inch taller than Jaylen Brown
Passing- 3.3 apg for a wing at his age is advanced - see turnovers
Defense- 2.6 steals per 36 is very good. along with 1 block per 36.
Good rebounder for a wing
High Pedigree - #2 in RSCI Rankings
Draws fouls
Good in game dunker, 38 inch vert

Weaknesses
Shooting - struggled from 3 24% but did shoot 73% from ft
Didn't change narrative around shooting with combine performance 56/71 in total makes
Turnovers- 3.6 per 36, so negative assist to turnover. Probably wasn't ready to be featured
Ball handling- goes with turnovers here, he needs to tighten this up in the half court but open court he is a threat to grab and go.
Missed some time to end year with injury- tendon in thumb
Inefficiency scoring, but still higher than Kuminga, Scoot and Buzelis
Needs to add weight, only 197 lbs

Holland maligned for his turnovers but I think that was a result of his extraordinarily high usage at Ignite.
HIs usage on the floor with Melo and Brandon will be completely different. As JMAC pointed out above, Holland CAN pass and is capable of secondary playmaking.

I like his fit with Melo Brandon Miles and Mark
