My theory is that we are a real poor matchup to teams with massive, offensively-inclined centers because we are so small at that position. Valanciunas is going to feast on the low block.

We are a poor matchup with every team sans Detroit and San Antonio

Gafford out Gallo in and the lead evaporates…I know we are tanking but heck I hope they get rid of Gallo soon.

You almost have to try to be as bad as Poole is.

At least, for a night, he sat Poole's abysmal ass down. I'm just happy whenever Bilal and Denver are out there together.

Deni out, Kispert stays despite doing nothing other than some threes...

We currently have the highest points allowed per 100 possessions in nba history. And we are not a young team. That’s my biggest concern this year along with Poole’s contract.

We gave up almost 50 in the 2nd quarter. Will we allow 60 in a quarter at some point? Seems within reach. Go for gold, Wiz!
Can't say I do. Who else gonna shoot?

Bilal made 4 3s.
It is going to be a long time before we become relevant.

Yep. We'll be the Virginia Grand Wizards by the time we sniff the play in again
In Rizzo we trust

Re: Game Thread: Pels @ Wizards
For a team the has a reasonable defensive big in Gafford, an above average defender in Avdija, and a good instinctual defensive player in Coulibaley, I am taken aback by the overall defensive effort on almost every trip down the court. If you put those 3 on the court, and add 2 other average defenders, why is it hard to play good team defense? We shouldn't be giving up so many points, boards, 2nd chance points, etc. For 20 mins when those 3 are on the court, we should be doing better than the numbers show.

"I think", he was in while Gafford was out. Basically, all the teams know you just go to the hoop against the Wizards, they have no inside D.

I actually don’t think Deni has been good defensively this year. May be partly a function of increased offensive duties and no good defenders around him. But average at best defensively this year.

Personally, I've liked Avdija's defense, I haven't liked Gafford's this year. He's getting pushed around on the defensive boards, gets caught ball watching a lot, and just doesn't seem to be providing much on defense though still an efficient finisher on offense. Compared to Gallinari, of course, he is a major level up but compared to a decent NBA big, not this year. Bilal is still a raw rookie. He has amazing defensive plays and then breakdowns. He will be a good defender, but now he's an inconsistent one.
Of course, then you get into the rest of the team where Poole has been a disaster, Tyus hasn't looked any better than Morris on defense, and Kuzma seems to have decided that defense is for the role players, not for a superstar like him.
