Billups Carter Draft - R2 - Fadeaway_J* vs Blazer50

Post#1 » by durantbird » Tue May 7, 2024 10:37 am

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Please ensure you give a rationale for your vote; votes with no explanation will not be counted.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

**First to 3 votes advances.**

Roster (minutes)
CG Luka Doncic (30 SG)
/ J Kidd (12) / J J (6 SG)
PG Jason Kidd (32 PG)
/ Luka (10 PG) / J J (6 PG)
SF Shane Battier (28)
/ Josh Hart (20) / Luka (?)
PF Pau Gasol (30)
/ M Camby (12) / S Battier (6)
CT Marcus Camby (28)
/ M Robinson (12) / Pau (8)

Bench Josh Hart (20 SF)
Bench J J Reddick (6 PG / 6 SG)
Bench Mitchell Robinson (12 C)

Defense
We will play a straight up - switching scheme throughout out lineup. Luka's size will allow him to bully the Guard/Wing matchups to our core defenders in Battier (DPOY 10) or Josh Hart with his 7'1" wingspan. Jason Kidd is one of the best Guard defenders of all time and was a 1st team All Def 1 (and All NBA 1). Battier & Josh Hart will live on the 3 pt line to occupy Kawhi - unless Lillard switches to them where they will post up. Finally - Pau - Camby and M Robinson will not be overpowered by Fade's bigs and are all outstanding man defenders (Camby DPOY) - Robinson (2.9 blks) - and Pau who is effective at both end - and all can guard to the 3 pt line to minimize Rashard's stretch options. I like our matchups on the glass throughout the line up with Kidd / Luka and Josh Hart being elite rebounders at their positions.

Offense:
Run in Transition - and full course of P&R and Pick and Pop offense with wings coming off down screen for open 3 pt looks. We will run multiple sets to find Damian's match up (while occupying Kawhi at the 3 pt line. This will allow Luka - J Kidd or Hart to exploit the paint to score or find the open man for easy buckets. JJ Redick will come in to stretch the offense and keep Fade from crowding the paint.

I feel like this will be an entertaining series but like the advantages we have with a balance attack on both ends. I was able to get the guys I wanted in their most complete seasons throughout this draft (compromised with Luka (at 29/9/9). Good Luck Fadeaway!

Total: 88.0/88.0

Our four-out system is a nightmare to defend, with elite shooters everywhere and an excellent roll man in the middle. This setup gives plenty of options: spread pick-and-roll/pick-and-pop with Dame and Chandler/Lewis as screeners, Kawhi or Dame attacking in isolation with the spaced floor making it very difficult to send help, Lewis taking slower forwards off the dribble or attacking smaller ones in the post, plus a capable transition attack with Dame, Kawhi, Bridges, and Chandler. Defensively, Chandler is our defensive quarterback, giving us some scheme versatility with his ability to protect the rim as well as extend out on the court if needed. Kawhi/Bridges/Smart/Williams comprise an excellent corps of guard/wing defenders. Hartenstein is a great traditional backup for Chandler, while Williams gives us the five-out option.

Matchup
- Defensive assignments will be Bridges-Luka, Dame-Kidd, Kawhi-Battier, Chandler-Pau, Lewis-Camby. With Battier (on low volume) and Redick being Blazer's only reliable floor spacers, we will primarily look to pack the paint and crowd the space where Luka and Pau like to operate. We will cycle through Bridges, Smart, and Kawhi on Luka over the course of the game to keep him off balance.
- We should be able to put both Camby and Pau in defensive difficulty here. Camby is reluctant to leave the paint, which is death when Dame or Kawhi is coming off a Chandler screen. Pau is also out of his element having to be glued to Lewis beyond the arc.
- Our lineup leaves no place for Luka to hide; one-through-four, our worst offensive player is Bridges which is no picnic. Furthermore, with this much shooting on the court we can run screening actions involving whoever Luka is guarding, forcing him to switch onto Kawhi or Dame. By contrast, Blazer will find it harder to force favourable switches because most of the screeners aren't threatening enough as shooters.
- Those bench lineups with Robinson/Camby/Hart as a frontcourt are going to struggle for spacing, while Williams should have a field day spotting up for triples.

Good luck Blazer.

Both really talented teams overall. I think Blazer has stronger individual defenders overall with improved Luka etc.. and overall more talented players but I think Fade has the better fit and the matchup favors Fade.

I think Blazer lacks a bit in threepoint shooting and I think Pau and Camby will have a hard time containing Fade's shooters.

I don't like the amount of shooting for a Luka team and Pau will find it hard to match against a team with that much shooting. Camby isn't a perimeter oriented defender either. I also find the Kidd and Luka pairing a bit awkward - while they can coexist, I think that pairing is less than the sum of its parts. Prefer the balance in Fade's team and how it matches up here.

Luka is hyper specific in terms of fit, and him with two non-ranged bigs and no good movement shooter just feels like a big no-no.

Fade has a more sound build.
