Billups Carter Draft - R1 - flaco vs lilroddyb*

Post#1 » by durantbird » Mon May 6, 2024 1:48 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Please ensure you give a rationale for your vote; votes with no explanation will not be counted.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

**First to 3 votes advances.**

Best of luck, roddy!

Rotations
PG: Chauncey Billups (36) / Delon Wright (12)
SG: Eddie Jones (36) / Jaylen Brown (12)
SF: Jaylen Brown (26) / Tayshaun Prince (12) / Kevin Durant (10)
PF: Kevin Durant (28) / Jaren Jackson Jr. (20)
C: Jaren Jackson Jr. (18) / Shaquille O'Neal (30)

Offense
When Shaq comes in, we spread the floor and let him go to work. When he rests, we run a 5-out motion offense. Billups, Brown and KD provide rim pressure with their slashing game. JJJ can either roll to the basket or pop for 3.

Defense
When Shaq is on the floor we run a drop scheme. When he rests, we run a switch-heavy scheme. Wing D should be strong with 7 versatile/switchable defenders on the roster including both my PGs who are oversized at their position. Shaq always matches up against Dwight for defensive purposes.

6th man
Shaq would wreak havoc in the paint, especially against opposing 2nd units. He was still dominant leading the league in FG%, 2P% and eFG%. Having an All-NBA 3rd teamer coming off the bench is a massive luxury.

FGA
2023 Kevin Durant 18.3
2008 Chauncey Billups 11.2
2023 Jaren Jackson Jr. 13.0
2024 Jaylen Brown 17.9
2006 Eddie Jones 9.6
2022 Delon Wright 3.5
2003 Tayshaun Prince 3.0
2009 Shaquille O'Neal 11.2

Total: 87.7

C: Dwight Howard 38 min / Karl Anthony Towns 10 min
Pf: Karl Anthony Towns 28 min / Maxi Kleber 20 min
Sf: Andre Iguodala 28 min / Jonathan Isaac 20 min
Sg: Tracy McGrady 38 min / Andre Igoudala 10 min
Pg: Kyle Lowry 38 min / Tyus Jones 10 min

03 Tracy McGrady 24.2
10 Dwight Howard 10.2
18 Kyle Lowry 12.1
24 Karl Anthony Towns 15.3
24 Jonathan Isaac 4.9
13 Andre Iguodala 11
21 Maxi Kleber 5.5
18 Tyus Jones 4

tfga: 87.2

Offense is build is around Dwight and TMac. The spacing should be good enough with most of my guys being decent threepoint shooters outside of Dwight and Jonathan. Iggy and Tyus are nothing special from three but are streaky.

Defense
I think all my guys are good defenders outside of TMac

best of luck Flaco

Don't really think 2009 Shaq is viable defensively against a team that can space him out in pick-and-roll as well as through KAT's shooting. I also don't feel his style meshes particularly well with KD and Brown. As in this year's playoffs, KD cooks KAT one-on-one, but not in a manner that opens things up for his team in any meaningful way, plus he gives some back at the other end. I was initially put off by roddy's jumbo bench, but KAT and Kleber are good spacers at the big spots and both forwards have some defensive versatility.

Roddy's 5 is good enough that I think it'd be competitive if flaco had the better Jones and Durant seasons, so with that in mind I give roddy the edge. Vote lilroddyb.

I agree that Roddy has the better leading four given available seasons for some of flaco's players. I also don't like this version of Shaq needing to go against peak Howard.
