Day 3, Tiger sinks an eagle putt at the 16th to grab a share of the lead. Wow!

Justin Rose drops another shot, Tiger now the outright leader while standing on the 17th tee. Intimidation!

^awesome youtube channel there. subscribed.

from that channel:

in this vid you can see that tiger looks so at ease lately compared to the last couple of years, even before the victory, i.e. during pre-tourney interviews and such. looks like ol' lindsey has set him straight again lol. 8-)

he did have some wayward drives off the tee in the final round though. needs to clean that up so he can get green jacket number 5 in two weeks.

steve stricker has got to be kicking himself right now :D

[Augusta Chairman Billy] Payne on TV coverage: "We know everybody wants more. One of the tenants [sic] we hold true is that it is limited." #Masters

10:36 AM - 10 Apr 13

So Masters video coverage sucks by design. Most other tourneys, especially majors, get full coverage somewhere, whether via TV (Golf channel) or internet stream, but nooooooo, not Augusta. They're "special."

If The Masters enjoys the reputation of being special, why not do something no other tournament does and extend your coverage to all day?

We see it with college basketball.. they show only some games during the regular season but when the tournament starts, they show every single minute on TV starting at noon and running to midnight. I get the idea that golf isn't as exciting as other sports, but they show the entire Nascar races for like 6 hours. Why can't they televise the greatest tournament in the world for more than 4 hours on thursday and friday? The play starts at 8 am and runs until 7 (11 hours) and we only get to see 4 hours of the most prestigous tournament of the year.

Im not sure if 'less is more' in this case.

Eye-opening:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masters_To ... ted_States

The reason Augusta National is able to exercise such control over CBS, which operates on a year-to-year contract, is because the Masters is one of the few international sports events that could operate without TV money. Indeed, with many of the world's wealthiest men on its exclusive membership roll, Augusta needs the television rights fee like Bill Gates needs a car loan.

This became abundantly clear two years ago when a protest against the club's refusal to admit female members was organised. Women's rights activists prepared to launch an attack on the tournament's sponsors and there was talk of a widespread product boycott.

Augusta's response? It cancelled the sponsorships to protect the companies and covered the cost itself. There are still no female members at Augusta and the controversy has quietened down. [Article written in 2007 before Condoleezza Rice became a member in 2012.]

They canned announcer Jack Whitaker for referring to the crowd as a "mob" rather than the preferred "patrons." That was way back in 1966!

In 1994 they canned Gary McCord for saying the 17th green was so fast it was "bikini-waxed."

Basically, they can do whatever they want because the they don't need us, they don't need the TV money. I guess we should consider ourselves lucky to get what little coverage they do decide to give us out of the kindness of their hearts? :(

Tiger birdies the 13th to move to -3, just 3 shots back of the leader Marc Leishman (-6), but only one shot back of 2nd place (David Lynn at -4).

Leishman won't stay ahead. Flash in the pan. Tiger's in great shape.

Spoke too soon. Tiger bogeys the 14th after a disappointing lag put leaves him a 5 footer for par, which he misses. Back to -2, 4 shots back.

Blown opportunity for Tiger at the 15th. Misses a 6 footer for birdie, makes his par, remains at -2.

Tiger might get DQ'ed for an illegal drop. One less viewer of the tournament then.

Looks like Tiger won't be DQ'ed. Assessed a 2 stroke penalty.

But if he wants to do the right thing, he should DQ himself, withdraw. He gained an advantage by breaking the rule, and then he signed an incorrect scorecard. Ignorance of the rule is no excuse.

If he respects the game, he will withdraw. Does he really want a tainted win?

Golf isn't like other sports in this respect. In other sports, "if you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'." Not so in golf. Golf is a gentleman's game, a game of honor and integrity where players police themselves.

Tiger should do the right thing and set an example.
