Re: Official NBA General Discussion 2023-24 V2.0
The Magic will need to trade for a #1 to move Paolo to 2. Cap space this year to try to get something of good value. Then Franz is in the OG spot of providing the contract and main value (along with a bunch of picks and stuff) to get that #1 that wants out. Role player contracts are always the problem as they balloon past value so they'll have to choose wisely on who they can cash out with for futures.

Re: Official NBA General Discussion 2023-24 V2.0
Its the Brandon Ingram conundrum. It's why Paolo probably slides well into the number 2 slot where he can then use the lesser pressure/defender to ease both the passes and the scoring for himself. It's why the Paul George option wouldn't really work well here in how this dynamic needs to operate.

The only differences are Scottie is a year older than Banchero, our team is garbage at defence, and we didn't come close to making the playoffs they way they did.

"Making the playoffs" is meaningless if you're not a contender (which the Magic of course aren't). Thought fans would have figured that out after our last handful of years.
The difference is that Scottie is an all around better player and will provide you both playmaking and help defense at an elite level. The team will almost certainly need another big star level player if not an outright dominant superstar as well. That's the same for every team, including the Magic, to be a real contender.
Pissing away assets the last few years has put us behind on the accumulation front at the margins, which is why we're a few years behind in terms of maneuverability. The Magic, like the Raptors, aren't anything but meaningless playoff fodder until the top end reality changes.

If he leaves GS its for an overpay. Which would make it a big mistake by the team signing him.

Feels like the Heat are getting ready to blow it up, build around Bam rather than Jimmy. I mean when Pat Riley tells a volatile guy like Butler to STFU, the relationship is probably over.

It was a weird PC. He was asked point blank about Jimmy being moved and was steadfast that they won't. But then he also took a shot at Jimmy's availability, or lack thereof:
He also mentioned that he expressed his concern about Jimmy missing so many games to his agent, and this was prior to the season lol. He also said he hates the 65-game rule because it essentially tells players it's okay to take 17 games off. He also called Herro "fragile" with regards to his health. He spent quite a bit of time lamenting how player availability has become a huge concern for the Heat.
He also pretty firmly said the Heat don't rebuild.
My takeaway was that he still arrogantly believes a star will fall in his lap. I mean, I get why thinks that, it HAS happened before but the last few years have been major whiffs in terms of landing guys who literally had Miami as their top destination.
Should be interesting to see which way they go. I think Philly may be desperate enough to trade for Jimmy if they strike out on PG13.

I think Pat already has the next star lined up, in Mitchell. They don’t want to extend Jimmy, and he is eligible and probably asking for one.
Could see a deal where Jimmy ends up on the Sixers, Herro ends up on the Cavs, and picks from Sixers and Heat go to the Cavs. Cavs are too young to be interested in Jimmy. And Sixers want a difference maker in the short term and will pay Jimmy
