Theres a couple of Serbians that are draft eligible - Nikola Djurisic and Tristan Vukcevic. Both project to be 2nd rounders though.
Jokic was 2nd rounder so he might have more knowledge on players from there

Nurse did heck-all last year to develop players, Darko will be welcome here. We need to see the same players in a new light going forward.

I am happy we got Darko. Kind of cool to hire a European coach and he is an important guy for Memphis.

I can't wait to hear him talk about our "swag". He is really funny about using that term.

Look at how well Memphis developed guys. I am excited to see some bigger results.

He seems like a brilliant basketball mind, but I'm always wary of how NBA players will respond to European coaches. Blatt and Koko are examples of recent failed experiments (both great coaches, but NBA players didn't want to play for them).

https://www.espn.com/nba/insider/insider/story/_/id/33849936/nba-coaching-prospects-here-top-names-league-insiders-extolling-scenes?platform=amp People all over the coaching world, as well as players who have benefited from his grasp of the game, rave about Darko Rajakovic. That makes a lot of sense when you consider he has been poached twice -- Phoenix and Memphis -- over the past couple of years by incoming head coaches assembling a staff from scratch. A European head coach has yet to break through with a sustained career in the NBA, but Rajakovic (Serbia) has the intellect and passion for the craft that makes him the current morning-line favorite to become the first. The man has authored academic-journal style articles about the evolution of the pick-and-roll, but he's anything but academic in his warmth with players and fellow coaches.

It's tough to say....I think even with keeping the current core, they wanted a coach who can also compete but also develop the young players.

Masai might get his cake and eat it too.

Well I'm surprised, I thought this long wait was for Sergio, and waiting for his playoffs to be done. Maybe it looks like we are building with the young guys, and hiring a new coach.

From what I've learned/read is that he's good at developing, which is something that was obviously lacking with Nick. Develop the youngster, while coaches learn in the big seat, until your ready to hit your contending years which he may not be around for anyways. Also could be we've heard rumblings from team Klutch that FVV or Trent leaving....which also might have picked a direction and inturn our hiring for us.

Looks like we zone in something that was lacking when hiring our coaches. When we hired Nick, he offered creativity and out of the box thinking which was obviously lacking with Dwayne Casey, now looks like we are hiring someone who is good/great at developing young pieces, which Nick wasn't really interested in doing.

Players seemed to have responded very well to him. He's played a key role in the development of a lot of NBA players.

Excellent hire ! Apparently he worked closely developing Bane, JJJ, Ja, etc, and the players have raved about him. Being the top Assistant on a team that finished 2nd in the West (despite their best player missing 21 games) says a lot too.

I would kind of assume Fred + Siakam are gone, Trent stays and OG is 50/50, but who knows!

This was done to undo the flynn over bane mistake. We didn't draft the wrong player, we just had the wrong coaches
