Re: Nike Hoop Summit '24 Thread
This game lost a lot of appeal once it basically turned into the McDonald's All American game only divided by nationality.
Up until 2014 or something they really used to get the best world talents of the year. But since then I guess they dont want to bother with the hassle of dealing with their teams in Europe, probably got super expensive as well flying them all over to the US so they focused on High School talent which lowered the talent level a lot

Re: Nike Hoop Summit '24 Thread
First impressions:
** Cooper Flagg -- Looks about 6'8". Has a nice mid-range game with his fading jumper and high release.
** Ace Bailey -- Looks a bit taller than Cooper. Smooth jumper. He's long, and he gets up for contests and rebounds.
** AJ Dybantsa -- Very long. Uses long strides to drive by defenders. Aggressive going to the rim. Has some passing vision.
** VJ Edgecomb -- Athletic. Confident driver with some change-of-speed. Gets on top of the rim. Confident shooter with his feet set.
** Chomche -- Decent size. Sets a hard screen. Competes for rebounds. Can hedge and recover. Defensive deterrent at the rim. Has passing chops from the high post. Has touch in the post with his left hand.
** Nolan Traore -- Nice 2-way guard with athleticism and a complete game.

A lot of good players in this game. Saw some good mechanics shooting the rock too. Will be interesting to see how they do next year as we still have Covid oldies hanging around. I also thought Traore looked great as a lead guard.

Traoré is the one we were waiting for french bball !! All positions are stacked except PG !! He''s a pure product of the French Basketball Institution where he spent 3 yrs (playing in the 3rd league in France at the age of 14), same institution as TP9, Diaw, Pietrus, Fournier, Batum, Wemby, ... etc
He will turn 18 in a month and a half and next yr he should have around 25min, from there we'll see if he goes next draft or the following.

If he can score at an above average level, perhaps he will grade out as a Malik Monk type. I preface that with the understanding that Malik is an elite run/jump athlete.
If he can take elements from Vanvleet's game, he will have a solid nba career. Even JJ Barea was capable of defending SGs in the nba and crafting out a nice career. These shorter guys really have to be dogs on defense, while providing instant offense. Monk is exceptional leaper, while Edgecomb looks pretty good in that area, but not exceptional, however, we've seen SOME players, like Dwayne Wade, make strides athletically after entering the league, due to fully dedicating themselves to improving in that area.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

I'm yet to watch the Hoop Summit, but Edgecombe looked tiny for a wing at McDonald's. Not just his height, but his build looked small too. In saying that he does look like a good athlete.

Flagg has a really good frame. Looks broad across the body with a good thickness of the limb despite his comparative leanness.

Edgecombe needs to be on that Bahamas OQT tournament.
Gordon/Hield/Kai/Ayton. They need all the talent they can get, even tho' he's a pup.

Batum has never been in Insep, he was in developed in Le Mans (which he joined at 15th). Rest is correct, including the hopes we can have in Traore. Even though he looks like a score first (and clutch) pg, we are still missing a real floor general and pnr maestro.

Dybantsa, Traore and Edgecombe combined for 47 shot attempts, mostly from self-creation. Meanwhile, Chomche got two shot attempts. There wasn't much passing going on. USA shared the ball a little more.

He's a guard, potentially even a lead guard.

Flagg moves so well for a big wing/combo forward. Plays hard. The shot form is terrible but was going in so IDC.
