76ers 2023-24 Season Thread Part 1

Post#1 » by Arsenal » Sun Oct 29, 2023 3:45 pm

Time to make a new thread for the regular season since the offseason is done.

My main takeaway after 2 games is that Maxey is already the 2nd star to pair with Embiid. Therefore, keep Soften far far away from this team until he gets traded. His presence will only stifle Maxey and hurt team chemistry. Just suspend him for conduct detrimental to the team or come up with another excuse.

And now that we have our 2 stars, we have the option of trading Soften for good-fitting role players instead of only a star or futures that could be traded for another star.

This team is good enough to make a run this year with a couple more good rotation pieces.

Time's yours...

Terrance Mann fits

My opinion is to allow the Clippers to stumble a bit, and if they don't fully come around to Morey demands, then ask for Mann, swaps, and Powell (who they should give assets for). Powell gives a versatile bench scoring punch at a rate that truly won't be that bad. Mann could be a more aggressive version of Melton.

2 stars with hella depth...2 way depth. With the same backup center problem as always

I can’t see Lavine being an option. Bulls are going to ask a kings ransom for him and probably get double what Philly can offer. Something like 3-4 FRP especially if he stays healthy and scoring over 30 ppg. Derozan on the other hand …

Philly currently has 2 frp, and could trade swaps, and would get at least 1 frp from Clippers with Harden, if not more if Morey has his way.

Also, not everyone is going to want Lavine, he's not that guy. I'm not positive Morey wants Lavine. Not sure Miami would want Lavine. The only competitive teams that I think should be interested at the right price are Philly, NYK, Miami and BKN. Whic of those teams he'd prefer to join a Big 3 with?

Frankly, I think Siakam or OG are better fits for Philly.

I wouldn't trade a single first for Lavine.

Bodner and Neubeck on their podcast said they think LaVine is very gettable, but nobody wants that contract.

It's one of the worst contracts in the league, so no surprises there

The Bulls would have to attach draft capital with Lavine to move that contract.

76ers would be idiots to take on that situation. Especially when we already have our own G in Maxey.

If you have your C and your G, you spend the big money on a F.

Anunoby is the piece that completes us. Just be patient until the summer and then throw the max at him.

For any cap experts, is it correct that they could trade Harden for a high salary player and re-sign them if needed during the offseason (e.g. DeRozan), max a FA (e.g. OG), and let Harris go, and still max Maxey after that?

Essentially yes, but they'll need to do some negotiating and maybe shed an asset line Tucker.

Such as Max OG at 40 (which seems weird, I was thinking 30 for him too), sign DeRozan for 30 or under, and definitely on the Maxey part.

For a team trying to contend or add scoring punch like the 4 teams I mentioned. As long as you don't have to get rid of a quality player. Sending some draft capital should be good for Lavine. Like sending Lowry and draft assets for Miami makes sense.

He's been healthier lately and in a league where jaylen Brown is getting North of 60. He alright. He can pass for a 3 if needed. Keep Tobias on the low, or get OG on the low. You could still have depth... And go for it.

We don't need an all offense no defense guy like Lavine now that Maxey has emerged.

We need to surround Embiid and Maxey with tough defenders who can shoot and do some secondary playmaking.

So Mann, Melton, Oubre, Tobias.

I'm with it

With the style of how we’re playing, I wouldnt want Lavine. I’d even rather have Coby White, while paying for a lot less.

I’d also love to sign OG. But by “max” how much would that be? $50M per year? Im not familiar with cap.

Just seems to me handing out the max to OG is similar to how Magic signed Rashard Lewis to an eyebrow raising contract back then. Where the money is paid more on how good of a fit a player was and the real power of that FA money.

I think a low key interesting Harden destination would be Minnesota. Not that he’d be interested, but Harden in the PnR with KAT (and also Gobert to an extent) would be dangerous. The problem would be taking the ball out of Anthony Edwards hands.

I was interested in Minnesota as a trade partner a while ago. Conley and Slo-Mo would be nice expiring pieces, but Minnesota has no future draft picks available after the Gobert debacle and my favorite long term get from them, the good McDaniels brother, was just signed to an extension which takes him off the table. I can definitely see them wanting him, but what is the return beyond expiring players?

Ideal outcome for me might be the Raptors disintegrate & we get Siakim for Harden. I think Harden would actually be a good on court fit for them too.

Also, not sure how it’d happen but getting Dejounte Murray on this team would be interesting. An off guard rotation of Murray/Melton would be perfect in this new system.
