It's wild to me he didn't use the time off last year to build his upper body at all. Access to all you need as a pro athlete but just no motivation?

It can be difficult to put on weight.

Shawn Bradley never could, despite absurd calories-per-day counts and plenty of effort trying. Even if you're lifting a lot, sometimes it just translates into strength gain without weight gain. Guys like Bradley and Holmgren really need some weight to help their game, but sometimes it just doesn't come.

It's difficult but not impossible. Especially if you're not on your feet for a year.

I don't know if putting on a lot of weight it's the best idea for that type of body/player.

Nowitzky trainer talked about that recently when asked about Wemby. He sayed he shoudn't focus on trying to build weight, that would eventually break him down, and that his game doesnt need it.

I'm talking specifically Holmgren. Holmgren weighs less than 195 lbs and is over 7 feet tall. I'm not here saying the kid needs to get to 245, but for someone with zero muscle mass he will benefit greatly with another 20-25 lbs which will make him harder to guard, less of an injury risk all while without losing any quickness. Noob gains are a real thing and even the most basic lifting regimen would've done wonders for him during the later stages of his recovery during the last year.

I'm certain he's doing plenty of lifting.

Yeah packing on weight and muscle isn't as easy as the people who don't lift anything more than a mozzarella cheese stick at a bar think it is.

I'm only commenting on this issue because I've been into bodybuilding and a certified PT for 10 years. Holmgren surely is not doing any resistance program to grow.

I’m sure Chet is lifting but his primary goal is likely core strength, mobility, and injury prevention. I doubt a modern NBA training staff would be pushing him to add bulk.

Basketball is not bodybuilding, it's actually more close to the opposite.

Never said it was. But building muscle and adding weight for sport can be achieved with similar programs.

Explosions - if you live in the South Jersey area and ever want to train hit me up. You sound like a strong feller.

Correct. Look at Giannis entering the league vs. now or even 6-7 years ago.

Wouldn’t you be really hesitant to change his body composition while he’s recovering from a foot injury tho? It just feels like you be introducing an imbalance that could lead to other problems.

So I hope you guys are finally seeing what I said at the beginning, how bad Bumba is, one of the worst players I've ever seen.

Still not seeing it. He still looks like the league-average center he's always been. More than one third of his minutes for the season happened yesterday, so it's still not a large enough sample size to mean much, but the numbers are trending the right direction. He has the best +/- and the best On-Off on the team. He's probably better than Marcus Morris and certainly better than Amir Johnson or Norvel Pelle or some of the other backups who have failed us in the past.

His motor is terrible. Hes not a good player but if he had any semblance of a motor he would be playable to solid just because of his physical profile.
