It’s a standard move from the Klutch playbook at this point. Maxey probably has so many voices in his ear telling him to diversify his brand & build his “platform.” It’s weird to me that as NBA contracts have skyrocketed players seem to want to take on more jobs in their free time. If someone paid me millions to play basketball, you wouldn’t see or hear me outside of game days.

Sounds right

The part that made me curious is that his podcast is in part produced by the NBA

However offense is 2/3 of the game. You can have offense only guys and be fine. Defense only guys are a hell of a lot trickier (which makes people calling for Springer all the more laughable, but I digress).

The problem for Maxey is pairing with Harden. You now ideally need to have both forward spots be strong defensively and switchable 1-4 while still being able to shoot and being okay mentally as the 4th and 5th options. Hence the signing of PJ Tucker.

Maxey is definitely improving from where he was few months ago, it's what you want to see, young players improving.

He has looked more active defensively lately. Need him to keep it up going into the playoffs. We are likely to play the Nets than the Celtics in the playoffs both long athletic teams that will target him. His 3pt shot is on point which should give him a opportunity to slash to the hoop . He has to be able to read the defense when it converges on him and either kickout or drop off to Embiid.

I want to see Maxey be able to get to the rim for layups against set defenses next year. Watching a guy like Garland, with Maxey's shooting ability he should be able to set up and break down defenders with the threat of the shot. Right now he can't do that unless it's on a rotating defender.

He's not that valuable of a player yet but if he starts doing that watch out. And we should all know by now to not discount Maxey's ability to add to his game in the offseason.

Garland is just way more talented offensive player, if anything Brunson should be who he emulates, similar physical profile and drafted low.

Garland will always be better because he can create for others that I feel like Maxey will never really have. But I don't think it's a stretch for Maxey to be as good of a halfcourt scorer as Garland.

It's just not about creating for others, but his shot making ability is much better and it was just a natural thing, before the draft you could see it.

Not really, I just hate the idea of maxing him, which is what happens these days with players like him that are kinda good but not enough.

Maxey just needs to keep adding moves and become better at breaking down defenders in iso. Tony Parker is still a good comp & I’d love for Maxey to steal his spin move. Parker would use his speed to get defenders off balance and then roast them with a spin move. Little things like that will make a huge difference in his game.

That is definitely true. Garland, however, would allow us to stagger Harden's rest, which we can't do because Maxey doesn't operate well running an offense from the half-court.

Maxey I think is more lethal as an off-the-ball scorer. Garland will still get his but Maxey is hitting 50 percent of his 3's this year in the playoffs, and 45 percent during the regular season he has just taken that part of his game to another level. In the playoffs even more so than the regular season is a make-or-miss league and Maxey has had some huge performances not just this year but last year as well.

I think it's fine to view him as one of the better off-the-ball scorers in the entire NBA. What that is worth contract-wise is sort of unimportant what is important is he fits like a glove next to Harden. He pushes the ball up the court. He defers to Harden and is lethal off the ball. Garland there is overlap and yes you can improve your bench by having one of Garland or Harden on the court at all times but Harden is going to be on the court for 35-38 minutes a majority of the game.

We need him to put his awful celtics game behind him and produce. Should try to get him in switches going downhill against Horford, Tatum, Grant williams... The slower guys on the team. White defended him well with his quickness and length.

If you don't Max Maxey who do you get to replace him? The guy has shown marked improvement each off season. Who's to say that will not continue. Let's not be the Mavericks and end up complaining about not having the ability to sign Maxey, when he was on our team all along and we invested time and effort into his growth.
The Accession of Paul Reed is upon us !

Bring on the draft

You want it to be one way....but it's the other way.
