The only silver lining to this loss is that Brian Johnson will probably get the Sean Desai treatment this week. We can only hope.

Call me overly optimistic and I get it was the Giants but had it not been for the two unlucky turnovers (one on the fumble on the opening kickoff in the second half when Zacchaeus was pushed into Scott and Goedert slipping on the pick 6), this would have been a blowout.

I thought Brian Johnson and company actually called a good game for a change by mixing up the pass with the run. Hopefully, that's a sign of things to come. But yes, we aren't looking like a Super Bowl team right now.

Def should have been a blow out but not the most encouraging performance with or without the turnovers. The Giants are just that bad. I got to go to the game and something about seeing it in person is just different. Even after the Slayton score I wasn't worried. NY is just a couple levels beneath the Eagles, and this isn't me glazing our team because we, like you said Embiid P, aren't a SB team at the moment. I hope we start to click and finish these last 2 games on another level for obvious reasons.

Well no point in further emotionally investing ourselves in this football team. If they make noise in the playoffs it will be a pleasant surprise but expecting anything other than one and done is highly unrealistic at this point.

Yup. The defense was exposed early in the season and yet they found ways to overcome it. Now if the offense doesn't score TDs it's pretty much a guaranteed loss.

Even the refs know how terrible this defense is hence the bogus PI call on Ringo.

They figured out ways to overcome their terrible defense earlier in the year. Even when the offense wasn't scoring. Now it's like they just fold like a cheap tent. The only thing I can think of is that they have some serious locker room issue going on. The 49er loss appears to have broken them somehow. Anyway, I agree this season is over.

Did i post about how much I hate the 2023 Eagles? I think they can turn it around in 2024 the right moves. Might need to get rid of the headcoach though. Also stop dumpster diving for safeties and linebackers.

Agreed with all except that the head coach will be fired. Like him or not, Sirianni is here for at least another season. The coordinators however, are a different story.

They need to adjust their defensive cap allocation. Howie has undervalued the secondary for a long time now, and I think part of the reason is they don’t know how to scout it so they hide the deficiency by saying “we value the DL”.

I don’t necessarily disagree about their de-valuation of the off ball LBs though despite the poor play there. The secondary is far more of a problem and does require premium players, cap, and draft picks.

To their credit, the Eagles usually spend good money on quality vet CBs (Vincent, Asante, Nnamdi, Maxwell, Slay, and Bradberry), but for whatever reason refuse to invest first round picks in them (the last CB they took in the first was Lito Sheppard 22 years ago). Unfortunately some of the vet signings like Nnamdi, Maxwell and re-signing Bradberry in the offseason ended up being total busts. While I don't expect that trend to change in 2024 (I think Lane's eventual replacement at RT will be their top priority in the draft), they should consider changing their philosophy long-term and thus their scouting on young CBs as you said. Hopefully Ringo is a keeper long-term despite taking him in the 4th round.

Safety is even less of a priority and they usually don't invest any higher than a third rounder in the positions nor do they invest big money in them. Sydney Brown looks like he'll be something (though his over-aggression at times will lead to dumb penalties). Blankenship tries but he was an undrafted free agent for a reason and we're seeing it on the field with his abysmal pass coverage. He'd be much more suited on special teams and as a situational DB long-term. They need a real upgrade there.
