Glen Davis future on the Magic?

Post#1 » by PersianCeltic » Wed Apr 17, 2013 12:01 am

I was just curious how Magic fans view Baby's future with the Magic? For example do you see him as a starter for the coming years, a future key 6th man, trade bait etc? I really like how he has matured and seems to get it but I can't figure out what type of career he is destined for. Thoughts?

A big piece going forward whether it is trade asset or building block. It really depend on the direction of this rebuilding right now. If it is 1 year or 2. He could very well stay.

Considering the vegan diet, I'm curious to see what shape he comes back in next season.

However, I have a feeling he'll want to be the focal point on offense, the 'star' of the team, like he wanted to be before the injury. And since that will likely be the case, I'm not so big on seeing him return to the team as currently constructed.

Otis traded for him because Dwight wanted him. This is Hennigan's team now, so I'm not so sure where BBD fits.

Do you think Magic will continue to tank next season with draft and trade(hopefully) this offseason?

I think the Magic are going to want to go into the 2013-14 season with Harkless/Harris/Vucevic in the starting line-up, along with whoever they draft with their lottery pick (unless it's Nerlens Noel). Basically, it's probably going to be a continuation of the youth movement, and because of this, I don't really see where BBD fits in the plans.

BBD has been adamant about starting in the past, and not only starting, but being the main focal point on offense. And because of that, I don't think we're the right situation for him anymore. I guess we'll have to wait and see how this offseason plays out. But expect at least 3 or 4 of our starters to be around 19-23 years old next season (unless some crazy offseason move goes down), which would theoretically mean a lot of losses again.

I agree with a point that many of the guys are making, if he has a need to be a main focal point, he will be gone. I could see theoretically the Magic holding on to him until near the trade deadline and let him build more value. Since he did get hurt last season.

I'm neutral either way. They guy is an extremely efficient scorer, and lately has shown a defensive presence, and is a proven asset to a championship caliber team. However, with the way this team is constructed now, he is expendable.

Not really, He has a constant mid range shot. A good lost post game. Knows how to draw contact. Shoots FTs well.

Glen Davis was a part of the old regime. He's a gonner. He'll be sold for a penny on the dollar.

the tandem Vuc+BBD was starting to do very well before injury

with Vuc improving his defense over the summer and BBD losing weight

without our 2013 pick

PF:BBD/AN
C:Vuc
Draft Carter
Sign monk
Trade Cole for a forward
Let chuma+fultz go
Offer Harris and goga a 1+1 deal

unleash Jett next seaon

Go Magic

He has none of those things: He's closest with the FT shooting, but .707 for his career is mediocre at best; his low post game is best described as awkward; 4 FTA attempts per game is poor for a guy who took 16FGA per game last season, so he clearly doesn't draw fouls well; he shoots 38.8% from 10-15 feet and 33% from 16-23 feet (both well below league averages) so his the only thing constant about his mid range shot is that it is terrible.

His TS% is .484, well below the league average of .535, compounded by the fact that he was taking 16 shots per game this season.

He's a woefully inefficient scorer, and he has no place as a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, even 4th or 5th option on a team with winning aspirations.

Hater will hate

BBD wants to be here, he has big heart, he is cheap, great asset to this team

might not be the best PF in the league but can log great minutes at PF and C

and as i said before:

Maybe he meant he's constantly shooting mid-range jumpers.
