wh.....WHAT!?!?

*head begins to swell to 3x normal size*

haha, just kidding. i can understand not wanting to trade a 1st away for that. especially if it's an immediate 1st.

well, next season we'll have Bogans expiring 3mil. the season after we'll have Cook's expriing 3.5mil and Battie's expiring 6mil. we've got expirings coming out the wazooooooo! i like this team the way it is.

i agree with the guys that say there are options coming for this offseason. we've just made it tougher to get deals done, but the options are still there.

it's good to see Mhec and Spinedoc on the disenchanted side for once

And a first round pick. And Fran possibly coming over. And Battie rreturning. I for one do not want a ton of turnaround this offseason. Draft a guy, sign a MLE, get Battie back and add them to this years team. No need to retool any more than that.

Yes he will help tremendously. But he's not a long term solution.

I think there will be better options in the off season to fill these holes. So, IMO, the only reason to make a trade is if we feel it would make us a title contender.

Making us a title contender is a pretty high threshold Cammo. I agree with you about the fact that Battie is coming back next year and the prospect of Fran coming over is looking better, so I wasn't too bent out of shape that we couldn't get a pf complement for Dwight. But, the sg position has me totally baffled. I can't believe that Otis is happy with our rotation there. I'm not in doomsday mode though, just disappointed that we didn't take advantage of some fairly valuable assets.

I would love to add a quality SG, but who was available? Really only Mike Miller, and to get him a team had to take back Brian Cardinal. That is a dealbreaker for every team in the league. So really, who is it we could have gotten? We have a better chance at adding a SG through the draft or MLE than we did through a trade yesterday.

Mike was an alright idea, not my favorite though. Not sure if we would have had to take back Cardinal to get him either. My first moves would have been to call about Maggette and Artest. Both of them have been rumored on and off about being available. Maggette seems like he'd welcome the move to come back, but Artest has been rumored to want to go back to N.Y, so I don't know. It will be a lot tougher getting them at the mle vs a trade. The mle will be around the 6M range. I'm hoping that Corey will consider it, but I wouldn't have taken the chance.

Carter was another one I liked. If we could have gotten Boone added to a deal, it would have been a nice fit. There would be no need for the mle then if we filled two holes like that. Then use our draft pick on a pg. Same goes for a deal involving Big Ben. Thabo would have been nice for taking Wallace's contract, not likely but I'd make the call. It seems better than taking back an equally ugly contract of Hughes. Pietrus was a decent option too. His defense and length would have been very nice paired with Evans. Even Bonzi Wells would have been a welcome addition. Those are just a few off the top of my head. I'm sure I could find some others that I like.

It has been said multiple places that Memphis was not willing to move Miller without Cardinal. I want no part of Carter or a 2 month Artest rental. Maggette would have been nice, but from everything I have read, trading him was never considered by the Clippers.

I don't think a lot of people understand how few true options were available to us at the deadline.

You may be right, and we disagree about a couple of players, but our expiring contracts were not balled up in one player. I can understand not being able to move a piece like that to a team, but they were broken into smaller equally proportioned contracts. With JJ as bait, I think we had some decent flexibility to make a deal. Again, an upgrade at pf, sg, or pg would have been acceptable to me. Its over though, its starting to fade. I'm slowly going through the stages of acceptance.
