CLE - MEM - NOP - SAC (Blockbuster)

Post#1 » by bpcox05 » Fri May 17, 2024 2:31 pm

***Dependent on Mitchell agreeing to an extension with CLE***

-----------------------------------

CLE Gets: Desmond Bane, Harrison Barnes, Dyson Daniels, #21, & 2024/2025 LAL 1st
CLE Gives: Darius Garland & Jarrett Allen
Why for CLE? With Mitchell locked up long term, they move on from Garland allowing Mitchell to be the primary ball handler. Bane can still help share some of the ballhandling/playmaking duties but he's also a very effective off ball player. He also still gives CLE a good secondary scorer behind Mitchell. Moving Allen allows Mobley to slide over to C and add more spacing for Mitchell and Bane to attack the paint. Barnes gives them a veteran SF/PF who can contribute to that floor spacing while playing okay defense. In addition, they get a couple of 1st round draft picks to further add some cheap, young talent around their Mitchell-Bane-Mobley core.

PG - Mitchell / Daniels
SG - Bane / LeVert / Merrill / Jerome
SF - Strus / Okoro
PF - Barnes / Wade / Niang
C - Mobley
Picks - #20 / #21

-----------------------------------

MEM Gets: Domantas Sabonis
MEM Gives: Desmond Bane
Why for MEM? The Grizzlies have a glaring hole at C, but have a lot of guard depth (Morant, Smart, Rose, Williams Jr., Kennard, Konchar). Williams Jr. looked like he could be a solid starting 3&D SG last year, and at 23, could still get better. In exchange, they get an all star C in Sabonis while already having the best (or one of the best), most complementary PFs to put next to him (Jackson Jr.) to help cover Sabonis's weaknesses. This gives the Grizzlies a very well balanced team that can beat you in a multitude of ways.

PG - Morant / Smart / Rose
SG - Williams Jr. / Kennard / Konchar
SF - Jackson / Williams / Watanabe
PF - Jackson Jr. / Clarke / LaRavia
C - Sabonis / Aldama
Picks - #9 / #39 / #57

-----------------------------------

NOP Gets: Darius Garland
NOP Gives: Brandon Ingram, Dyson Daniels, #21, & 2024/2025 LAL 1st
Why for NOP? The Pelicans don't seem to be confident in the fit between Ingram and Zion, and many are questioning McCollum's ability to play PG. This allows them to move off an expiring Ingram (avoiding losing him for nothing in FA the following offseason) for a locked up, young PG to pair with Zion long term. The Pelicans also have Jones and Murphy who can take over the forward minutes from Ingram still giving them a formidable rotation. I'd probably opt for bringing McCollum off the bench in a 30+ mpg super 6th man role allowing Jones and Murphy to start between Garland and Zion.

PG - Garland / Alvarado
SG - Jones / McCollum / Hawkins
SF - Murphy / Ryan
PF - Zion / Robinson-Earl / Liddell
C - Nance
Picks - NA

-----------------------------------

SAC Gets: Brandon Ingram & Jarrett Allen
SAC Gives: Domantas Sabonis & Harrison Barnes
Why for SAC? The Kings take a risk by moving their locked up, all-star C for an expiring Ingram and Allen with 2 years left. The reward would be that the Kings bring in a legitimate 2nd scorer to play behind Fox. Although Allen isn't the offensive player that Sabonis is, the hope is that Fox, Monk, Ingram, and Murray would be enough to carry the team while Allen is more of a "dirty work" scorer and anchors the defense. Also, both Ingram and Allen are pretty good passers as well which can help soften the loss of Sabonis' passing/offensive engine.

PG - Fox / Mitchell
SG - Ellis / Monk / Jones
SF - Ingram / Huerter / Duarte
PF - Murray / Lyles / Vezenkov
C - Allen
Picks - #13 / #45

The Cavs just deal directly with the Pelicans.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

I have Bane as the better player than Ingram in a vacuum, and I think he'd be a solid fit next to Mitchell. Then you consider the fact that Ingram is an expiring and Bane is on a 5 year deal, and there's quite the difference .The cost is Allen but I'd imagine the Cavs would eventually want to move Mobley to C and bring in better spacers/shooters at PF to stretch the floor further.

NOP are paying for Mitchell and getting Garland. This is closer with swapping CJ for Ingram if you want Daniels and those picks.

I rather just stick with Bane. I am not overly worried about our center hole and I think Sabonis and Ja just are not a good pairing and on D our team ceiling would just be too limited.

Make it Huerter. Assure Ingram resigns. Have a Barnes + salary + 13 for Grant deal lined up. Finish with….

Fox/Davion
BI/Ellis
Murray/MLE (Naji)
Grant/Lyles
Allen/backup

Short of a clear upgrade the Grizzlies are not trading Bane. No reason to trade one of the best shooters in the league who’s skills compliment our other two stars for a Center not named Jokic/Emibiid.

Garland with that contract is at best neutral value. No way he is worth Ingram, Daniels and 2 1sts.
Kings steal value here IMO. If Sabonis can be on contender anywhere its with Jackson on Grizzlies, but i still dont like the fit because shooting drops off too much for Memphis.

Grizz and Pels say no, Cavs probably yes, Kings hell yea.

If Ja was a plus 3pt shooter and more capable of being a positive off ball player then this trade could make sense. But Ja is going to dominate the ball and live off driving the lane and we would not play near enough through Sabonis to utilize his strengths but we would still be exposed to his weaknesses. Sabonis and JJJ is a good pairing in a bubble, but really almost anyone and JJJ is a good pairing. The Ja/Sabonis pairing is the problem they don't really compliment each other well enough.

I'm not super attached to Sabonis, but I really don't like Ingram that much. He just isn't the guy.

I want to wait and see what happens in Boston, if they fall apart I wonder if Sabonis for Brown makes sense. The team is getting criticism for not running an actual offense and just jacking 3s + iso. Sabonis would fix that day 1. KP is a great fit with him.
