Dallas - Portland - Brooklyn

Post#1 » by Godaddycurse » Fri May 10, 2024 1:50 am

Dallas trade: THJ, 2025 LP 1st, #58
Dallas receive: Bates-Diop, DFS, #34

Portland trade: Brogdon, #34, #40
Portland receive: THJ, DAL LP 2025 1st, #58

Brooklyn trade: DFS, Bates-Diop
Brooklyn receive: Brogdon, #40

Why for Portland: get a 1st in next yrs draft for Brogdon by consolidating their extra 2nds. Save money to duck the tax
Why for Brooklyn: fill PG hole, avoid risk of DFS opting in next year
Why for Dallas: fill SF hole

Pass for POR.

Zero interest in THJ, this is a late FRP and a very late SRP for the best player in the deal and 2 early SRP.

I have DFS as the more valuable player/archtype than Brogdon.

In absolute value i had

early 2nd = 58 + 6M savings
Brogdon + early 2nd = 2025 LP 1st

Yeah what's the difference between #34 and the FRP Portland will end up getting? Is Brogdon and #40 only worth moving up like 10 spots? I could see #34 and #40 almost (maybe with some cash to grease the wheels) getting a late first round pick (28-30ish) from a team that wants two unguaranteed contracts vs a guaranteed one.

I think take out the #34/#58 swap and I would do this, but in truth I think Brogdon can almost get a pick in the late 20s himself so if we are adding 2 high second rounders we ought to either be saving more money or getting a more useful (for us) player in return.

I understand the logic. I just disagree.

Last year #31 was traded for 34 + 39. Pick 25 was traded for #31 + 2 future 2nds. I have Brogdon worth closer to a high 2nd than late 1st

I actually do like this for Portland. I think Brogdon’s value has gone down since mid-season due to simply not playing at all since the trade deadline. This combined with not needing 4 picks in this draft, next draft likely being better, the chance that Mavs are a lower playoff seed, and Portland saves money means this is a no brainier in my opinion. If we’re lucky, we could flip THJ later for some future seconds and a worse player on an expiring contract.

Don’t like it for Dallas, if DJJ doesn’t say it’s okay but I still think Dallas could do better. Dallas had the number 1 defense after the deadline and that has largely held up in the post season. Dallas needs secondary/tertiary offensive creation, improved 3pt shooting, and improved ft shooting.

I understand that everyone looks at Luka and Kyrie and think just keep tripling down on defense but Dallas at this point needs to add guys who can hit their open shots and relieve offensive pressure.

Ignoring the posturing from Nets FO, DAL shopped DFS for a 1st 15 months ago, and they failed to get a 1st for him, I have his value significantly lower now, if backup PF was a big need, I'd cut POR out and trade THJ + #58 + TOR 25 2nd for him, but DAL need a PO eligible back up PG and backup scorer who can fill for Kai missed more than backup PF.

At this point, it may sound strange but in my opinion, Dallas needs Brogdon more than DFS... especially if THJ is leaving... Tim finished the regular season very poorly, but he was leading the 6 man for a good part of the season. .and I'm not sure Hardy can fill that void.

Yeah, I’d be happy with the OP as long as the first was protected as it is... But I’d also want to cut out Brooklyn. Add in Powell to make it look legal?

I don’t know which way to match Thybulle and Brogdon, but I think that’s what I would by trying.

No interest in giving up one of the few firsts Dallas has left for this. DFS was great here, but that time has past, its over.

I'm cool with the OP for all involved. I get people always want top value for their players, but not sure one year of an injury-prone Brogdon is worth more - -again very much just my opinion, not telling you how to value him. And I really have always doubted the crazy rumored valuations of DFS even though I very much stan him.

Brooklyn balances and gets a pick. Portland combines stuff to get the best asset possible which is where they should be and Dallas adds a friend of Luka who fits everything they want to do. Even if Jones comes back, there are plenty of minutes for DFS.

I would want to keep #40 and take out #58.

Although I highly prefer PDX move Simons and Grant while keeping Brogdan and Thybulle as the vets.

Not sure DFS is worth a FRP anymore, even a protected one.

Isn't Derrick Jones Jr playing pretty well at SF? Why not just bring him back and use the FRP for something else other than a DJJ-level player like DFS.

DFS shoots the 3 better

Not meaningfully. Over the course of the last 600-700 attempts, DFS shot like 2 percentage points better although on significant but not drastically higher attempts per 100. Maybe comes out to like 1 more 3pa per game and instead of 32% you get 33%. Not worth a FRP.
