ATL/POR/ ORL…TIMELINES & FIT

Post#1 » by Skybox » Sun May 12, 2024 1:01 pm

POR always seems to be the best third in a 3-way…Grant, Brogdon, & Simons could help a team like ATL and POR should be receptive to picks and cap relief vs win-now stuff. I could see ATL valuing WCJ and/or Isaac, maybe Black, but, otherwise, ORL really doesn’t have much for them.

ATL sends: Capela, Hunter, Murray
ATL gets: WCJ, Jerami Grant, Brogdon, DEN 25 frp

POR sends: Brogdon, Grant
POR gets: Anthony Black, De’Andre Hunter

ORL sends: WCJ, A. Black, DEN 25 frp
ORL gets: Murray, Capela

ATL gets better fitting win-now guys, gets off Capela & Hunter overpays (decent players…but overpays)
POR saves a TON of money, gets a long, versatile defense-first prospect, and a younger, cheaper, versatile version of Grant in Hunter
ORL gets a straight up savage guard next to Suggs, who improves the team on both ends, and a better fitting vet rim-protector without giving up much draft capital by utilizing cap space to facilitate.

* I assumed ORL would be slinging picks around, but it seems pretty fair to all, given team priorities & timelines. Some will argue Capela > WCJ …but reconsider that. WCJ does everything pretty well, including spread the floor, is younger and much cheaper. I’d happily leave the ORL/ATL Center swap out, but I consider it a sweetener for ATL…Is POR owed more? Don’t ignore Anthony Black’s fit & upside. (They’re getting off a LOT of old man salary.) maybe srps or another frp from ORL?…no?

I think Atlanta needs to prioritize defense, not getting two more offensive players who play the same position as their two best remaining players.

Didn’t see this proposal when I made mine (combine if desired).

I kind of like yours better, for ORL, but I think it's a pick too much as, imo, WCJ and AB are clearly worth a decent frp, so even if the other two are later frps - it's a lot

...ORL would have to find a C...but, without taking on Capela's salary, they'd still have enough to go hunting a younger, better option like Hartenstein or Claxton (if his price doesn't get crazy). I figured taking on Capela and moving out Hunter were both benefits to ATL...but I could also see the obvious appeal of Black to ATL.

Here it is, for those who missed it (like I did)...

Hawks trade Murray
Magic trade WCJ/Black/25 FRP (Denver)/26 FRP

Murray provides Magic with a quality PG who might make the best defensive backcourt.

Hawks get a center who can hold his own and replace Capela/Okongwu while getting a bigger PG/SF and 2 picks. The picks will most likely be out of the lottery but can be valuable-especially 25s.
