Jersey retirement isn't just about winning rings. Can you imagine Minnesota saying they won't retire KG since he didn't bring their franchise a ring (not saying Blake is KG).

Retiring Blake shouldn't be controversial, now I'm not saying it is mandatory, but the Clippers with zero retired jerseys and Blake representing that time of the franchise going from mostly losing to consistent winning. Makes sense, we'll see.

Honestly, I would prefer not.

Lob City was a failure, and so far, so is the 213 era. I really don't want to see Chis Paul, Blake Griffin, DJ, Leonard, George, Harden, and Westbrook jerseys up there. We might as well add Pat Bev, too.

I have no issue with not wanting it, but I think you lumped WAY too many players in there. Harden and Westbrook? Harden hasn't even been a Clipper for a whole season, and both joined the Clippers post-prime. DJ was not a star, just a good starter, so no chance. CP will probably get New Orleans. Leonard and George don't have any narrative to be retired as Clippers. Those are all very different.

No brainer, and as much as I love Lawler, I think we need to have a player first.

Also, Lawlers retired number shouldn’t be 40, it should be 100 - it’s the law.

100 is good too

40 was for his 40 years with the Clippers

as for Blake, I'm not a big fan but I'm a little surprised at the vitriol
except for Randy Smith [mostly Buffalo], Blake's the franchise leading scorer, 3rd in rebs and 5th in assists

Blake is a Clipper all-timer, re-signed here and would have retired here but we traded him.

I don't think winning a title is an absolute prerequisite to retiring a jersey, it's more about the overall significance of the player to the franchise. I don't think Toronto is going to be retiring Kawhi's jersey any time soon.

1. Yes I could see it.
2. Point is taken. Throw in Stockton and Malone.

Nonetheless, those guys are much better players than Blake and comfortably within the top 75. Their tenures are also not viewed as failures/a let down by those fan bases.

I can understand why some would want BG's number retired - he was really the first guy who did big things and got us excited. ROY, Slam Dunk Contest winner and my all-time favorite moment, the Mozgov dunk porn. We had been starving in the wilderness for so long that a stale cheeseburger looked like filet mignon. I think that's maybe behind the sentiment now. Nothing to take away from Blake. I am grateful for the fun and excitement he provided in his early years.

But he's not worthy of a retired jersey.

First Clipper into the HOF... but I agree with some that Lawler should have the honor first. Nobody, but nobody, stayed with the organization longer and his honest and great announcing was wonderful. Let's hang the banner at Intuit for him and Sweet Jo (happy 24th, Ralph)
The Clipper fan understands the Book of Exodus better than anyone... what it's like to struggle 40 years in the wilderness... and Genesis.. why Cain went after Abel... So fLakers, look out... we're coming.
