Is Sean Rhyan basically just an afterthought at this point? He couldn't even earn ST snaps, which I guess is better than getting them while not earning them and sticking on the roster way too long (cough Amari cough).

Jenkins brings a lot of versatility so I'm happy he's back. Plus he's been trending up throughout the year after the injury seemed to be hampering him early.

I'm not sure what to make of Rhyan. I know guys with shorter reach are finding success at tackle recently (Tom, Slater) but he always projected more as a guard to me. I suppose he could develop into a decent tackle behind Yosh, but just haven't seen enough of him and his suspension doesn't give off great starting vibes. I do like his overall size though and he can move in space.

I'd have to think he's on a bit of a warm, if not hot seat. With Jenkins extended, Tom filling in nicely for Bahk, and Myers, Runyon, and Nijman doing pretty well and others in the wings. Still, some linemen take a year or two to get some traction to the NFL game. He at least needs to show some progress by next summer I'd think.

We need to re-sign Nijman, how much do you guys think it will cost?

Messed around with some cap numbers for next year. If you take all our highest paid players roster bonuses, turn them into signing bonuses you can free up about 18 mil. Trade Savage for anything, probably cut Lowry (have to let Wyatt play next year) gets you to about 22 mil of cap space before draft picks. Might be able to keep Tonyan with that. Leaves the offense in decent shape but no safeties, thing on d-line, and an extension needed for Gary (all fixable).

If Rodgers retires it frees up another 16 mil. If he doesn't there will be a big decision on Love to make.

Not as dire as I expected. Pushing everything out makes a lot of sense with the cap increasing like it is.

Was hoping for more of a discount since Jenkins had been hurt and/or playing horrible this year, but I have faith this will be a good contract. Gary will be next.

Obviously they are the ones that see him every day, but I think the problem with him has been more about health this year rather than about being washed. He was playing consistently for the last games until he had the appendectomy, which is just bad luck, not about cronical problems with the knee. That´s why I think the won´t move on from him. Even if he doesn´t reach his prime level again, 80% of Bakhtiari is still a top player in a premium position.

You're both right that they're the ones who see him every day and we have to defer to their judgment, but IMO he wasn't at 80% of his old self this year, nor even close. Also, a debilitating injury is significantly worse than being (arguably) washed. Cobb was considered washed, but sometimes older guys can dig deep and come up with another good year in the right situation. Not if they have a career-altering knee injury though.

OT- David’s brother Eric works out at the gym I own. Salt of the earth type guy.

Correct. Rodgers retiring is the absolute worst case scenario for the Packers’ cap.

Ingalls broke it down that there’s a small window in the offseason where they can trade Rodgers and the dead cap number drops significantly. I’m guessing this is a way that Rodgers built it in to the deal so if they decide to move on he controls his destination. Feels like that’s where this is headed.

Rodgers retiring has the same affect as him being traded. $40 million cap hit if before June 1st, or $16/$24 in '23 and '24 if after June 1st.

Rodgers retiring is actually the most beneficial to the Packers from a cap standpoint.

He will play for us next season, especially after the improvements we have shown in the past weeks.

He returned expecting them to be really good at minimum, and maybe even great. Going from downright bad to maybe mediocre is still a huge step backwards.

Also, he has played quite poorly. Deep down he must know, even as he constantly blames others for his shortcomings, that he needs to go to a team with a much healthier payroll structure so that they can carry him and his ridiculous salary to better numbers the same way the rest of the offense carried him the last 2 years.
