SI.com Spring Position Rankings: QBs

Post#1 » by KingInExile » Fri Apr 6, 2007 4:08 am

Around the country, spring practice is well underway. This week, SI.com brought out early position rankings for the upcoming season. Below is their top-10 quarterbacks.

1. Colt Brennan...Hawaii...Sr...6-3/205...Irvine, CA
(How many more records can he break next season?)

2. Brian Brohm...Louisville...Sr...6-4/224...Louisville, KY
(His return should help Louisville deal with all its other changes.)

3. John David Booty...USC...Sr...6-3/215...Shreveport, LA
(His Rose Bowl effort made him a Heisman favorite.)

4. Chad Henne...Michigan...Sr...6-2/224...Wyomissing, PA
(He will direct arguably the most star-studded offense in the nation.)

5. Pat White...West Virginia...Jr...6-2/190...Daphne, AL
(White and Steve Slaton are the best one-two punch in the game.)

6. Erik Ainge...Tennessee...Sr...6-6/220...Hillsboro, OR
(Tennessee fans are hoping his knee will recover quickly.)

7. Colt McCoy...Texas...So...6-3/195...Tuscola, TX
(He went from afterthought to folk hero in less than a year.)

8. Graham Harrell...Texas Tech...Jr...6-3/197...Ennis, TX
(That Insight Bowl rally is a sign of good things to come.)

9. Andre' Woodson...Kentucky...Sr...6-5/230...Radcliff, KY
(He was the most prolific passer in the SEC last year.)

10. Matt Ryan...Boston College...Sr...6-5/215...Exton, PA
(BC is one of the few ACC teams without quarterback concerns.)

While I will tend to agree with #1, I also see that John David Booty is once again overrated. But what are your thoughts? Who's on the list that shouldn't be...and who should be on the list but isn't?

nate longshore is missing. for all the success tedford's offenses have had at cal, he's only had one season with a returning starter qb (cal spent most of the 2nd half of that season ranking in the top 5). 3 time conference offensive player of the week last year, his first as a starter. offense should be better this year with tedford taking back the play calling duties. Call me when Brennan ever faces a defense with even one guy that will get drafted in the NFL. Until then I'll take Brohm, Henne, and White over him to win me BCS conference games.

I'd put Kellen Clemens at the bottom of that list. He's got the ability to get Indiana into a bowl game; how many guys could you really say that about?

Already happened...Sabby Piscitelli, Oregon State on Dec 20th last year. He grabbed 2 INTs from Brennen and helped hold the passing game down. But Brennen still threw for 400 yards that game. I'm not saying that Sabby will be a high pick, but he should get some looks in the late rounds from teams needing defensive backs and safetys.

Also, I would say that Boise State had a formidable defense (Brennen had a decent game against them).

Some things:

1. Wrong Kellen, Icness.

2. You mean Koby Hall isn't a draftable prospect? Why not?

3. John David Booty is very overrated. Again. All season. In fact, I'm starting to believe Colt McCoy's becoming a little overrated as well.

4. What a weak bunch of QBs. Jesus.

WTF am I thinking about with Kellen Clemens? :banghead:
I meant Kellen Lewis of Indiana. Good catch, bro!

As for Brennan's opponents, he faced Marcus McCauley in conference play and not one other DB who will ever see the term "signing bonus" in any football context. Korey Hall at LB might sneak into the top 100 picks this year, and that's the only other defender close. Piscitelli is right around that range too. And throwing for 400 yards in that offense and style is akin to Michigan running for 75 yards; he'd better be putting up 500+ and 5+TDs or else they're getting bombed. It looks all well and good until he gets to an NFL camp and everyone realizes pretty quickly he's Ty Detmer or David Klingler.

Andre Woodson will be the 3rd best QB in the Nation next year behind Brennan and Brohm. This guy is gonna play his way into a top 15 NFL selection.

I'm :droop: over this kid...

Matt Flynn's bowl game against Miami a season ago was GREAT.

With that said, it is open competition, and don't be surprised if Ryan Perriloux emerges as the starter- Donovan Mcnabb dos.

Watch out for Matthew Stafford. If not this season, his junior season. He'll be the first QB off the boards when he joins the draft.
