Trade with Washington

Post#1 » by Piston Pete » Sun Jan 14, 2024 3:48 pm

Bagley
Livers
2025 and 2026 2nd rounders

For

Gallinari
Muscala

Basically Weaver acknowledging his error with the Bagley deal. This trade offsets that.

Wondering if either Gallo and/or Muscala are sent away to a 3rd team.

Two seconds is a little pricey for 12.5 in cap space, considering we got 2 seconds to absorb Harris and his 19.9M. Admitting a mistake with Bagley isn't a bad thing. Cap space will be at a premium this summer. Whether Weaver can use it well is questionable. Muscala and Gallo are vet floor spacing bigs who would might better complement the Pistons' shooting challenged perimeter.

I'm okay with it.

Lol this isn’t a bad trade. But it also is a sad trade. We have to be the first sure fire bottom 3 team to trade for pieces that might make us win more games. The reason being, it would take some really good players to effect our draft position.

Yeah, vets who are on their last legs that couldn’t get playing time in Washington. But I guess the same could be said for Bagley and Livers here, for the most part.

Yeah, the big question is what we do with the cap space. A couple of blah 2nd rounders are essentially nothing.

Lots of dead weight expirings for trades now too, though I worry it's for Lavine or something stupid like that.

Omari Sankofa said they want to end up with 2 players to fill that cap space.

Good trade! I doubt this is it, likely more to come to this trade

How I feel about this trade all depends on what 2nd rounders are included (is it basically a late first pick #31 or #32) or is it another team's second or far future seconds... as well as of course what the heck we do with our cap space this summer. If we take on a $20 million contract just to absorb a few 2nd rounders its trash to even create the space in the first place.

Ridding of his own mistake. If it's two trash 2nds to rid of the Bagley contract then so be it.
If those are Pistons 2nds that will end up in the low 30s then, yeah, **** trade but otherwise it's a salary dump essentially. Not too different than how the Pistons got Burks.

This seems like a trade to set up something else but maybe I'm wrong.

2026 is the worst of NYK, NOP, MIN, and POR - So It's basically nothing as at least one of those teams will be good.

The 2025 pick is more confusing. I think maybe it's the worst of Golden State or Washington, but it's so convoluted with the conditions and protections, having been tossed around from team to team.

Weaver had to clear Bagley off the books so we can use our $60 million in cap space to sign Tobias Harris, Sadiq Bey, Killian Hayes and James Wiseman to four year deals.

This seems like a solid trade. 2nd rounders don’t excite me. Getting more cap space does. One less center to deal with. Not sure if Gallo and Muscala play much, but maybe they do and get us a few more wins.

The big question is what do we do with the cap space. Do we max out Siakam? Trade for Grant? Just sit and wait for opportunities as teams try to lower their payroll ? We have good options, but I’m nervous on what Weaver is going to do.

If it's for Lavine, that's a great move. We need someone to who can stop the bleeding in the 4th quarter. Yeah, we likely won't make the play-in, but this will help this young team get a winning mindset.

Bagley is not surprising at all to be moved but Livers has just been starting with us and Monty hyped him up in training camp and Weaver talked like he was part of the young core so its surprising to see us throw him aside. Of course he's a FA this summer so he could always be back at the minimum if Weavers wants to keep him in the league... but on the flip side its pretty clear that Knox is a better player than Livers and Knox wasn't in the league before we picked him up.

We can do better things than spending it on Lavine. I’d rather see us get some forwards instead of blowing all of our money on a SG that doesn’t play D.

100% we need two way forwards who can shoot the 3 and space the floor but also keep guys in front of them on the other end.
