HOUSTON -- Former Houston Astros star Jeff Bagwell has taken over as Houston's hitting coach after the team fired Sean Berry.

The former standout first baseman has served as special assistant to the general manager since retiring from the team in 2006.

Berry, who has been the hitting coach for the past five seasons, was given a chance to remain with the franchise in a development role. He hadn't yet decided if he'll accept that opportunit

I never understood why Berry was the hitting coach in the first place, but it's nice to see Bagwell getting a chance to work with some of the younger guys.

Oh how I miss the Biggio & Bagwell days...

Ausmus would also be a great addition as a coach, I concur. I'd be all for having those three guys coaching this team, and if Mills doesn't work out(though I like him so far), one of them can step in as manager(I'd probably lean towards Ausmus honestly, I have a feeling he'd make a terrific manager, even if the other two have more of a legendary status in Houston).

Also, as pathetic as this team has been it still gives me pleasure watching them destroy the even more pathetic Cubs!
