Talking to myself here, but needing somewhere to vent-wow was JV awful again today.

I don't understand why they don't skip a start, there is an obvious issue and its not getting better

Seems like there has been an issue for a while now though....

Not sure one missed start will fix it.

I am starting to doubt Brad Ausmus' managing ability. 2-0 game against the Indians in a series where runs have been hard to come by. Castellanos leads off the 4th inning with a double. Avila at the plate, and I'm screaming "Bunt!" since Avila's batting average with RISP is about .00000001. Nope, he strikes out. Lucky break--a wild pitch advances Castellanos to third. Romine at the plate and I'm screaming "Squeeze!" being that Romine is batting lefty and also can't swing a bat better than my dead grandmother. Nope, Romine strikes out. Rajai Davis pops out to end the inning. I decide that I need a beer.

Avila should be bunting down the third base line early and often, and this is clear simply based on the way the infield shifts every flipping time he's up to bat.

Do that, punish them with some bunt singles and force them to play defense honestly against you. At a .215 batting clip it couldn't hurt.

Ausmus is a rookie manager, so I won't condemn him just yet.

Oh believe me, I'm not condemning him. He's definitely done some good things with this team. I'm the first person to say that no one should assume they know more than a coach/GM who's been doing it for years since they're closer to the situation than a fan is, but there are situations where the stats don't lie. Yes, Avila had a season where he hit nearly .300--ONCE, and given the rest of his career that season looks to be a flyer. When you're a nearly everyday player, even hitting .215, and you've only driven in 15 runs one thing is pretty clear--you're not hitting when men are on base and should be looking to sacrifice if there are no outs.

I agree that Avila should be bunting toward third every chance he gets on the shift to keep the defense honest. He's got enough speed that if he lays down a decent bunt it's a guaranteed hit.

This season has the potential to be an epic disaster.

Yep. And with the way KC is playing, boy will it be tough to win the division. But we do still play them, in what could potentially be division deciding games.

On another note, does anyone think Verlander will ever get back to form? Or are going to really regret that 140 million..

KC is doing what they do at the end of most seasons and the Tigers seem to be scrapping out wins.
