Idk what kind of job Wes Unseld will do as an assistant but I wouldn’t want him as a head coach that’s for sure.

Why can’t the Bulls ever get someone that was previously involved with the Bulls like former players ?

With these changes you'd think the Bulls are about to have a new head coach too. I guess this is their way of revamping the staff while having a successor at the same time. But the names don't sound great. They have some proving to do.

Seen that he was there in Denver with akme. This must be a signing by them.

Adrian Griffin, Pete Myers, John Paxson, Bill Cartwright, Randy Brown, and if we go in the way back machine, Jerry Sloan and Johnny Red Kerr were all guys who were assistants with the Bulls after being players.

Not sure how many former Bulls players there are that went on to be coaches that didn't get started in Chicago (Steve Kerr comes to mind as the most famous ex Bull coach).

Unseld was high on our list before we hired Billy. This is very likely AKME’s hiring. If I remember correctly he was known for his defensive contributions on Denver’s staff.

I’m almost certain that a lot on this board wanted Unseld Jr as head coach when we initially signed Billy.

Rick Brunson also comes to mind.

If the Bulls do, you would be complaining to much to ever hear it.

NBA fan logic we need to trade one of two best players because (Player X) one needs to shine more.

If he wants to coach, Adrian Griffin would indeed be a great and possible addition. He spent a few years with Billy in OKC.

Exactly. Nothing really changes till AK is gone.

What a train wreck he has been.

The way I see it we just hired our next head coach for when Billy decide to quit, which IMO is very close to happening if not much result change next season.

Wow. Craig is one of the better assistant coaches in the league. They really wanted to revamp the coaching staff.

So when AK said that there were changes coming, he was talking about the coaching staff, and not the roster. I kid, kind of, but I'd be highly disappointed, if we end up with basically the same roster to start the new season, even though, I'm clearly aware that there are major constraints that may make it highly probable that we end up with a very similar roster, unless we get some big help by a desperate franchise.

The Bulls targeted coaches with head coaching experience in their quest to reshape the staff. They had conversations with many candidates including David Fizdale and Dwane Casey, sources said, but landed on two top targets. Longtime NBA journalist Marc Stein first reported the Fizdale contact in his Substack.

I actually prefer that they are going younger with their top assistants, but it's clearly a signal that Billy needs to start pushing the team forward, though, the reality is, AK hasn't done his prized head coach (in his mind) any favors with the roster. I see AK being set up as being the scapegoat, after he revamps the coaching staff, bringing back essentially the same roster, and saying that Billy didn't do enough.

Generally, as JVG explained many times, assistants, if they aren't in charge of something specific like off, def, or teaching a high pick, just don't move the needle.

But another exception is when a guy is clearly next up under a HC that has not been great.
